Research Engineer in Radar Technology
The Total Defence Research Institute (FOI) is a government agency conducting world-leading research in defense and security to support Sweden's military and civil defense. The research spans several areas, including underwater, cyber defense, space, electronic warfare, sensor systems, civil defense, CBRNe (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive substances), military platforms including weapons and protection, as well as security policy analysis. FOI's research plays a key role in building Sweden's defense capabilities.

About the Position
As a research engineer with us, you will work at the forefront of development, in a supportive and learning environment. You will conduct research and development for the benefit of our clients in the defense sector. The work can range from ideas and modeling to experiments and analysis, and you will have the opportunity to contribute both your technical expertise and your perspective. Within the unit, there are both experienced experts and newly hired engineers, creating good opportunities for mentorship and knowledge exchange.
For this position, we want you to have a background in the radar field, either from education or work experience. You are curious and want to deepen your knowledge in the technical areas relevant to the business. With us, you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills, both through work in research projects and through individually tailored professional development based on your and the organization's needs. We are looking for someone who is curious and solution-oriented, with an interest in working at the intersection of theory and practice.
Examples of Tasks Include
- development of experimental systems and prototypes for experiments in the radar field
- participation in laboratory tests as well as analysis and evaluation of the performance of technical systems
- planning, participation, and data analysis in field trials
- measurement and functional verification of systems in the radar field.
The position may also involve customer contacts and project management depending on personal experience and interest.
About the Unit
You will be part of the Electronic Warfare against Radar Systems unit, which belongs to the Electronic Warfare department. The unit works, among other things, to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate technical systems for defense applications. The work is both theoretically and experimentally oriented, with measurements performed both in the lab and in the field.
Do You Have the Competence Profile We Need?
Requirements
You have:
- a master's degree in electrical engineering, engineering physics, or computer engineering, or in another area that FOI assesses as equivalent
- knowledge of radar from education or work experience
- good command of spoken and written Swedish

Meritorious
It is an advantage if you have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- signal processing
- electronic design
- work in laboratory or development environments
- embedded systems and digital solutions
- programming and development tools, such as Matlab, C/C++, Java, or Python
- driver's license B
- several years of relevant work experience

The position is a permanent employment that may start with a six-month probationary period.
